My Mother is a resident in a H.U.D. subsidized apartment building. This is low income housing but your rent is based on how much money you have had to lay out for medical expenses. The facility is managed by Kiemle & Hagood She has had numerous mishaps over the years including a broken arm, ribs, hip, and pelvis. Following those problems we had enlisted a care giver / home maker from Care To Stay Home. For the most part this has been a good solution. However cost has become an issue and we had to terminate their services. I am part of what they call the "sandwich generation" those who care for a parent or parents and also have children living at home. While I only work part time, I have more than enough to keep me busy just at home, and now I'm going to have to squeeze out time to help my Mother with chores and shopping as well as transportation to appointments and assistance with her financial affairs.
Prioritizing all this is going to be tough. Fortunately she is still capable of doing most things but dementia is starting to take it's toll.
She is in need of a new primary care doctor, but it's tough to find doctors that are taking new Medicare patients. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Any of you in the same position? How do you handle it?
